Why I never got reply from companies I sent resume to?

This question may sound strange to some of you, but I really want to know why.

I am a 4th-year PhD student in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at a state school. I expect to graduate in this December. As of now, I have no paper published yet, however, I am preparing a paper that is to be submitted soon.

I have started job hunting since early May this year. Because I don't want to develop my career in academia, I have been focusing on industry positions (Biotech & Biopharmaceuticals). So far, I've sent out 100+ copies of my resume. But I've never got any reply from them. I know it's important to have a catchy resume, I have asked a lot of people (both academic and industry) for advice on how to improve my resume. I took most of their advice for resume improvement. I am very frustrated that no companies contacted me even for positions that my background fits very well.

Can anyone please tell me what the employers in industry are looking for?
